Van Security

If you are a van driver the safest way to keep your equipment safe is not to leave it in the van.  Often this isn’t practical if you are out and about working around the country, you can’t take a bunch of dirty tools into your B&B so often it’s a necessity to store them in your van over night.  If this is the case then you need to check your insurance policy to ensure that you are not only covered for leaving equipment in your vehicle but that you have the correct level of cover should a break in occur. Once you have your insurance covered there are a number of products on the market that are designed to make your van more secure.

Van Locking Systems and Exterior Security

Deadbolts

There are 2 kinds of deadbolts mechanical key operated or remote controlled that can be operated from your existing key fob which is a more expensive option or from their own key fob which can be kept separate from your van keys for added security. Deadbolts can be fitted inside the rear and side doors of your van and are tamper proof once installed

Slam Locks

As the name suggests slam locks automatically lock and secure a door when closed. Why would this be of use? Many of us use our vans for delivery purposes, where we get the items we need from our van then slam the door shut. On a standard lock this opens up great opportunities for thieves to come and empty the contents of a van while we are out of sight. With a slam lock fitted you don’t have to worry about the security of your cargo each time your back is turned, giving you peace of mind. All you have to worry about is making your deliveries and ensuring your remote control or keys are in your pocket when you get back to the van

Armaplate Lock Covers

Armaplate lock covers are made up of an extremely tough stainless steel plate that completely encases your existing van door lock/handle, which protects the lock area. On the inside of the door there is a further steel plate. The exterior steel plate has thread studs on the reverse of the plate that go through the door skin and the internal plate. This is all held together by heavy duty 10mm lock nuts to form a solid triple barrier. Incidentally the Armaplate lock has won the coveted SoldSecure Gold Award four times and can even get you reductions on your insurance policy from a number of UK insurance providers.

Van Interior Security

Van Boxes

Van boxes are a good anti theft device for those leaving their tools in a van on a regular basis. They are high tensile steel vaults with anti-drill locks that come in a multitude of sizes and can be securely fixed to a van interior. If you need to take your van box out on a job with you and security is an issue some models offer optional docking stations that can be secured to a bench or floor at various locations, keeping your tools safe and secure if you have to leave them unattended.

Van Bulkheads

Bulkheads are steel plates that are fitted immediately behind the passenger and driver seats. They come in a range of styles that include half height bulk heads, solid steel, bulkheads punched with holes and bulkheads with Perspex windows that allow exterior vision through the window. Each bulkhead is specifically manufactured to fit the varying shapes and sizes of individual van makes and models. From a safety point of view bulkheads protect both the driver and passenger from shifting loads, which become extremely dangerous when breaking at high speeds. They also prevent thieves from gaining access to a vans cargo by climbing over the seats. Other potential benefits of bulkheads are a reduction in noise levels and better heating and air conditioning efficiency, as only the driver and passenger area needing to be heated or cooled as opposed to the entire van.

They come as solid steel sheets or as mesh style barriers, which are punched from a solid sheet of steel to allow visibility from the rear windows.
