One in five British households is forced to call-out emergency trade services during the holidays and weekends according to a poll released today by Budget Van Insurance.  The majority of call-outs are for plumbers (46%) followed by central heating engineers (13%) and locksmiths (10%).

On top of festive spending, a third of respondents who have had to call-out the specialists have paid between £50-£100 for the service excluding any parts needed to complete the job.  While over ten per cent of respondents (23%) have paid between £150-£250 for services excluding parts.

Lisa Corston, Budget Van Insurance:
“Householders should take all preventative measures to avoid any domestic disasters over Christmas- whether this is storing spare keys in a secure place, having your boiler serviced and keeping your home warm enough to avoid burst pipes.

“With the cold-snap likely to continue over the coming weeks, we are urging people to ensure that their houses are in order to avoid any costly incidents.“
